VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Book Festival Society’s (VBFS) 28th book festival is running into a new Controversy. The VBFS, which alone organised 27 national book festivals successfully in the city is now associated with the AP government and NTR Trust this year to conduct the expo which is being Opposed.
Controversy Over Book Fests Name
Book lovers are raising Serious objections on changing the name of the expo. “The VBFS, which successfully conducted 27 book festivals in the name of “Vijayawada Pustaka Mahotsavallu, had changed the name of the expo to “Navyandhra Pustaka Sambaralu’ this year.
“This shows that some political pressure is Working on the VBFS,” said CH. Babu Rao, state Secretariat member, Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM). He fur. ther alleged that the government is trying to gain publicity by acting as if it is encouraging the book festival. The state government which rejected permission for the expo last year had now become a partner and promoting it as NTR Trust is involved, said Mr Babu Rao.
P. Gowtham Reddy, official spokesperson of YSR Congress, said that NTR Trust is trying to hijack the annual book festival conducted by the VBFS With the support of the state government. The VBFS fallen into the hands of NTR Trust and they have become an Over-powering shadow, he alleged.
Mr Gowtham Reddy further added that NTR Trust is trying to capture the VBFS and take over its properties in the city Which are Worth more than Rs 50 crore.
B. Babjee, president of the VBFS, condemned the allegations and said that they are heading to conduct the expo across the state and changed the name to reflect the impression of the newly formed State. “NTR Trust is just a partner promoting literature as a part of their voluntary services and the VBFS Will remain an independent body for. ever,” he added.
